Welcome to the world of bassist, producer, drummer, composer, Brian Bromberg!

Brian Bromberg is considered to be one of the world's most ground breaking and diverse bassists of our time, pushing the barriers of the acoustic and electric bass to their limits. Commonly using as many as 10 or more basses on his recordings, using different tunings, string configurations, acoustic basses, electric basses, piccolo basses etc... Brian has taken the bass and truly turned it into a vehicle for him to make music, write melodies, and be the lead melodic voice as well as the rhythmic foundation of the music. The bass has become an extention of the music inside him, and he has used all of these different basses to let that music sing!

Europe Tour/CA and FL dates!

We had a fantastic time at the Costa Brava Jazz Festival in Spain with the Full Circle Acoustic Electric Band, featuring Tom Zink, Doug Webb, and Joel Taylor. I want to thank Svetlana, Alexey, Anastasia, Olga, and all of the great people from the Costa Brava Jazz festival. I also want to thank Andrey, Maria, and the fantastic staff and crew at the Mas Filet Hotel. What a stunning place! If you want to go to a great place to just relax and chill, check out the Mas Filet hotel in the Costa Brava region of Spain, amazing!

After the Costa Brava Jazz Festival went to Bern Switzerland and played for a week at Marian's Jazzroom in the Innere Enge Hotel. What a fantastic place, great people, and such an amazing history honoring the Giants of jazz. If you are a jazz fan you should check out the Innere Enge Hotel, it is a jazz themed hotel where all of the rooms are decked out in memorabilia of the legends of this music. Thank you Hans and Benny for inviting us to play there for a week, can't wait for the next time!

Our next set of dates are in California, right in the middle of the state. October 12 we are at the legendary Yoshi's in Jack London Square in Oakland, truly one of the premier jazz clubs in the world, then we play at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz, the heart and soul of the classic Monterey Jazz Festival. I have played there a few times with other artists and have always had a great time, but playing my own music there will be a thrill!

Then we are off to the Clearwater Jazz Holiday on October 15 in Clearwater Florida. I have played the festival twice before and have had amazing experiences there. It's incredible playing your music to 15,000-20,000 people! That's doesn't happen everyday in the world of jazz, that's for sure. If you get a chance please come out and join us, the band is kickin'!

Brian Bromberg's Full Circle Acoustic Band review!

Concert Reviews, Reviews

Brian Bromberg’s Full Circle Acoustic Band@Catalina’s 05.13.16

by George W. Harris • May 14, 2016 •

Somehow, bassist Brian Bromberg has been always labeled under the “smooth jazz” category. Well, if Bromberg proved anything Friday night with his Full Circle Acoustic Band, it’s that there’s a world of difference between “smooth” jazz and “jazz that’s played smoothly.”

Featuring material from his recently released and muscularly swinging album, Bromberg started things off with his quartet of Mitch Forman/p, Joel Taylor/dr and Doug Webb/ts and had his upright dance along the strings with the nimble depth of Dumbo on Parade with snapping drums and beefy tenor on the bopping “Full Circle” and the double time toe tapper “Boomerang.”

A five piece horn section that included Ricky Woodard/bari and Bob Summers/tp jumped up on stage right as Forman pulled out his accordion to create a steam roller of energy for the irresistible back beat of “Naw’Lins!” while Bromberg created a rivulet of a groove on the incessantly driving “Sneaky Pete” while the horns added punctuations with more accents than a Sicilian wedding.

Forman created some vibey sounds on the keyboard which mixed with Webb’s breathy tenor as Bromberg’s mellow “Susumu’s Blues” highlighted the ability of the leader to create rich melodies on the deeply sonorous strings while his nifty line on “Bernie’s Bop” featured Webb blowing smoke rings that wafted through the air.

Bromberg then put down his giant upright, exchanged it for the hip looking 4 string piccolo bass and channeled Wes Montgomery with a sleek “Saturday Night In The Village” before the horns leaped back on the scene for a steamy and sweaty “Havana Nights” that had Taylor table dancing with his sticks while Webb and the horns sizzled like roasted peppers.

Cracking jokes between songs to keep the mood as festive as the music (“buy our latest disc, and I’ll sign it “Stanley Clarke”), Bromberg commented that ‘there are two kinds of music; that which is played well, and that not played well.’ He proved his point as he and the band moonwalked through a blistering take of a Michael Jackson hit that filled the room with ricocheting notes that had the packed club letting the band know they didn’t want it to stop ‘cause they couldn’t get enough.

It is music like this, delivered with originality, chops and joy of the art that made me fall in love with jazz in the first place. How many times does music return you to your first love?
