Today is Scott LaFaro’s birthday. Tragically, he died when he was 25, and I was just a year old, but his impact on me and countless other musicians in his short life changed the way so many of us play bass. In my tribute album, ‘LaFaro” which comes out on Friday, I didn’t try to emulate what he did, but instead took what he did as inspiration. Scott LaFaro was brilliant and a true innovator on the the upright bass.
